The Mother

I’ve been a little emotional lately.

The other week I was preaching, and I almost ‘lost it’ two times during the sermon.
I kind of chalked it up to being “hormonal,” but felt somehow vindicated when a fellow pastor, who is male, shared that he’s been pretty emotional lately, too.
So…it’s not just a lady thing…or a hormonal thing… but maybe it’s a timely thing.

The month of May can be a whopper of a month.

Talking with people about their schedules, I’ve heard how this month stretches them and their families. There are deadlines and last days, graduations and transitions, big games and high expectations, and also the reoccurring needs that come up and call upon them to step-up and be a leader, a mentor, and a guide.

And then you throw in a holiday like Mother’s Day into the mix.
Mother’s Day
a day where we can celebrate moms
a day where we may deeply miss our moms
a day where we may lament a relationship we never had
a day where we can look upon the offspring who have forever changed our bodies, our minds, and the way we understand the world.

It’s okay to be emotional.
Love is an emotion.
And God is love.
So…being a little emotional may actually speak to a truth about God, and how you are part of this crazy, beautiful, unpredictable, topsy-turvy love story.

Speaking of topsy-turvy love, enjoy the beautiful song created by Brandi Carlisle called “The Mother.” (Grab the tissues, hold onto the joy, share the love).
